Had a couple of interviews earlier - they said I was a strong candidate etc etc called me a couple of times but then didn't actually give me the job.

Now have one next week. Had the telephonic interview yesterday and they want me in next week. I really want to nail it.

I am good technically - it's an IT testing role in a niche finance area.
I have excellent testing experience and know all the theory and I will read up on the finance side.

But need some tips on shining. All this was 7 years ago - so I really need to talk well to stand a chance... any tips and techniques welcome!! Smile

Research the organisation so that you can answer basic questions about it. Are there any specialist periodicals/publications you can have a read through?

What Obviously said - also research the organisation so you can ask some questions about it.

Thanks.
Got another 2 calls yesterday. Been looking for 1 whole year with no calls and now suddenly everyone's interested!
All at the same time too! I have massive butterflies in my tummy....

Good luck sweetgrapes!!

I'm in similar position (well, not that everyone's interested but 2 interviews in short space).

Butterflies can be a good thing. Try to anticipate questions based on your circumstances, paying attention to anything that makes you uncomfortable speaking about. Avoid being waffly - I have to work hard on that. And avoiding scrunching my eyes up in thought - realise that some people may be scared off by those forehead furrows!

Waffle - yes.
Scrunching - yes. (Scary eyebrows too! I need to get to the lovely threading lady who makes me look human again)

And I tend to not say stuff thinking it's very basic and expected. But they don't know that I know until I tell them that I know, do they? iykwim.

I remember one post from xenia saying that she's awfully good at telling people again and again how wonderful she is. Need to take that on board too.

am getting mine threaded next week!

Didn't get it Sad

I waffled too much and didn't have enough concrete examples. Talked too high level instead of nitty gritty. That's what comes of leaving it 7 years. I don't remember anything.

On the plus side, my cv is good and I'm good on the telephone. (It's the subsequent face-to-face that I'm blowing).
They have all been very professional and haven't asked me about family or break (other than the bare bones of what I did) or childcare.

I have been aplying through gumtree (small startups) and direct to companies through their website and received positive noises from them at the very least and a telephonic from most where truly suitable. The recruitment agencies have been useless and won't touch my cv with a 10 ft pole.

Onwards and upwards..... that's the only way to go...
