Job share woes - partner going on maternity leave

I job share and the lady I share with has just announced she's pregnant.. Our job is a full time role and I expected our employer to just advertise & recruit maternity cover. However, they are now saying a recent similar situation has shown them it's virtually impossible to find good cover and whilst they'll certainly try Hmm, it's unlikely to happen (they won't use recruitment company or pay to advertise so no surprise they can't fill the role!)

They've already talked about moving me to a different role (admin instead of sales) which I don't want & cant afford the drop in pay, or, transfer to another office (fine for my job share partner but not for me due to already massive commute). Any ideas where I stand on this? can they just end my role like this without any serious attempt to find cover? My contract allows 3 months to find a replacement or my role becomes redundant so assuming this is the route they go down, would that be 3 months from now or when my partner goes on maternity leave?
Thanks LCN

They should go through a redundancy process if thry are ending the role.

Hi lechatnoir. Might help to tell us on Mumsnet in which city/town you work - it's possible a MNer is looking for a jobshare there. Just a thought.

I don't know about the legalities, but can you temporarily move to another role while she is on maternity, then move back to the status quo when she returns?

Not exactly ideal but might be better than the current proposal.

Would you consider filling her role and be full time for the temporary period?
