I have no contract - how much notice do I have to give to leave my job?

Just a quick question really.

I have been with my current employers for just over a year, I have no written contract and nothing was agreed verbally when I started regarding the length of my employment. I am also paid monthly in arrears.

I am in the process of looking for a new job, although I will try to give them as much notice as possible I would like to know, legally, how many weeks notice I am required to give them. ie. the minimum.

Thanks in advance.

A week.

Is that all? Crikey!

Well, that's nice to know that when I find the right job that I can act promptly if required.

Thank you for your quick response flowery

No problem. Yes it's not long is it? One of many reasons why it's a good idea for employers to sort out a contract!

Well I reminded them numerous times at the start of my employment and they kept saying they'd sort one out for me and it never happened.

Mind you it took them 5 months before I even had my own email address, I had to use my personal one for work correspondance - that didn't look very professional.

They are probably the most disorganised company I have ever worked for!

The job has been going rapidly downhill in terms of interest so it is definitely to my benefit that I can leave quickly as soon I find a new job.

Thanks once again. Fingers crossed for finding a new job asap now! Smile
