Will prospective employer verify current salary?

Hi,

Just been offered new job which I'm thrilled about. When I initially registered with agency in January I told them my salary and the annual bonus I had received last year (which was 13 per cent of salary so substantial). Since my 2nd interview we have been told that no bonuses will be paid indefinitely due to costly regulatory requirements.

Now I'm worried that if they confirm salary with hr they'll be told my basic salary only - I don't want them to think I've been dishonest.

So just wondering do prospective employers confirm current salaries in the reference process?

Tia

Nope - afaik, they're not allowed to. And anyway, you weren't dishonest - things have changed since they asked you which won't affect your earnings from your last year, given you're leaving anyway.

And congratulations :)

They probably won't ask for your previous salary, but if it does and they question how much bonus you received you can always show them your p60 from last year, you should have it by now.

Quite normal for companies to list basic salary only, and quite normal for new employers to query it, and get an explanation re bonus. Not normally an issue, as any plausible explanation will be taken at face value.

If bonus was a multiple of salary, then candidate may want to offer up tax return to prove it (not necc usually, and certainly not in cases like this!!!).
