I have been suspended pending an investigation over something im accused of saying to a drunk person they claim i told them confidential information regarding a patient in my care!

i have now cried solidly for 4 days & iv been told the investigation will take no less than 5 weeks! why would a person do this to somebody-its sick! Im spending my days crying, staring into space & vomiting.

im at rock bottom im scared stiff the NHS dont believe me and i'l be sacked & then how will i face people let alone get another job! Im going out of my mind here!

The union have been brilliant but still nobody can say the magic words "hes dropped the allegations" or "theres no case to answer". I cant explain how desperate i feel.

I love my job and i was/am bloody good at it im just lost.

Hi sparkle really sorry to hear you're going through this. Am I right in assuming you didn't reveal confidential information? If so, once they investigate they won't be able to prove it so you should be reinstated?

Do you have an employee care line for emotional support? If you have good relationships with your line manager /HR it may be worth leveraging those too

Best of luck x

JuliaScurr · 20/04/2012 14:19

union is definitely the best option
good luck!

Are you suspended on full pay?

missingmumxox · 21/04/2012 02:34

Hug to you from a fellow nurse, who is investigating? chances are they overheard something. and playing it back, when I was a student nurse , was accused of something, but in the 90's no suspension, because they basically realised the patient was not the full shilling, looked at the patients notes on either side of the curtain, and realised the pt and obviously overheard the conversations by the consultant to his firm about the other patients, I hope you get the same conclusion, the UK is mad at the moment we seem to have lost sight of the big picture :( we are paying for you, your ward is short of staff, but that little bit of me think, well yes we have to investigate, sorry, but take it on the chin, we are nurses our are patients are important, no one at work will think any different of you, well the time it happened on a ward I worked on we where all so bloody angry about it, we if we where allowed had fire works on his return,

chin up nurse.

missingmumxox · 21/04/2012 02:36

would have had fire works on his return :)

sorry to here you are in this predicament. remember that ploa (paid leave of absence) isn't meant to be punitive it's there to safeguard all involved and allow for the investigation to run smoothly.

just one bit of advice - if you are a shift worker please check with HR that they have instructed your payroll department to pay a % of average earnings for enhanced hours. Very frequently, payroll departments are instructed that ploa is in place and only pay basic hours. make sure you won't be out of pocket. also, if you do get this, make sure it is removed when you return to work otherwise you'll then have to deal with overpayments.

Thanks everybody for your support it means alot to me not to feel so alone. No I never gave any info out, I was approached by a person wanting info about a family member of his & when I didnt give it hes reported me as if I had - what an odd-ball! Im just holding my breath until they realise that this is nonsense! fingers toes & everything crossed!

How awful, I hope he's asked to compensate the NHS for what it costs to investigate/have you suspended by his outright false allegation Sad Angry

I hope you get the support you deserve.

Hattie23 · 21/04/2012 20:57
