I want to drop a day in work...

I have been back in full time work for seven months after maternity leave and am thinking about going down to 4 days from 5.

At the moment DS is in a nursery Mon, Tues, Thu, Fri and with my mum Wed.

I wondered if anyone could tell me about Bank holidays? If I ask for my day off to be Monday would I forfeit all my bank holidays?

It's probably the best day for me as we currently pay the nursery for every bank holiday even though they are closed and I am guessing that if my day off is a Monday that would somehow impact on my wages (in a good way) around bank holidays?

I'm confused so if anyone can help please do :)

It doesn't matter which days you work, as someone working 4 days a week you'd be entitled to all holiday, including bank holidays, on a pro rata basis. As a higher proportion of bank holidays are on a Monday you'll have to take some of those on other days.

Bank holidays won't impact your pay, but you will be entitled to 4/5 of a full working day off at some other time.

I work four days a week so get four fifths of all bank hols. Doesn't matter whether you work Mondays or not.

Actually, it might not be 4/5 Blush but it's a proportion of them, according to how many days a week you work. Your HR department/ payroll should sort it out.

I get 4/5 for a four day week

If a bank holiday falls on your normal day off, you can use that 4/5 leave another time (ie your employer owes you time) If you normally work that day (say a monday) you have to take extra leave to cover the rest of that day (IYKWIM). A 7 hour day would mean 1 hour 24 minutes leave would have to be used if a bank holiday falls on a day you work. 5 hours 36 granted for a day that you are off anyway.

It's why a Monday is probably the most popular day off for part-time workers. you get the Monday anyway, then can use the pro-rata leave another time.

It's all very complicated, so well worth checking it out yourself at the start of the leave year to make sure it's right and transferring your leave entitlement to hours.
