Anyone got as far as an interview and thought "I don't want to work here?"

Went for an interview today. I had been really excited.

Had the interview, which was very quick and then asked to look around. One of the other people showed me the type of room I would be working in, and I just thought - I can't do what I do in this tiny room.

They would be expecting me to teach 1 or 2 flute students in a room smaller than my bathroom.

I have now completely gone off the job and would rather continue to work from home in my enormous purpose built music studio with lovely piano and room to stomp around the room to demonstrate 2/4 time, even though once ds goes to school I won't really see him.

I am now hoping that they saw someone they liked more!

yes, threelittlebabies, I fear i will have to look elsewhere. My boss is dreadful. A really needy patronising insecure woman. I feel a bit sorry for her but i find myself bringing her problems home with me which is not what I want from work

Sorry to hear that bosscat, but you are right- you don't need it. Good luck with your job hunt

Nobody has rung me so this is a good sign.

Still nothing - I am delighted - I am sure they would have called by now if they wanted me.

i recently turned down a job. the minute i walked in i knew there was NO WAY i would be working there. the place was a tip, absolutely filthy. i felt so ungrateful and guilty because this lovely man had given me a chance too.

Yes. I went off 3 accountancy firms at the interview (then the penny dropped and I changed my career aims).
Went off a software company because they offered a low salary.
My last job, I did the 6 months probationary period, the company was so lousy that at the end of the 6 months, I turned them down

Brilliant day - still no call, so I'm expecting the rejection letter tomorrow.

And I doubled my baby music classes - which is what I really want to do. Hurrah!

Great news. Hope things work out all for the better.

If they do ring and offer, can you say "Thanks but no thanks, as in the meantime my situation has changed eg. more baby classes, and you took your time letting me know...."? Or will you be professionally blacklisted for ever and ever if you do?

bobbybobbobbingalong · 09/02/2006 19:27

Very small world, and so I would probably say - well another opportunity has come up and I would only be able to teach flute. But I like the "you took too long getting back to me".

Rejection letter came today - oh, the relief.

And I now have enough babies for 3 classes - so it's as well really.

Yes most definately.

Infact mine was on Friday. I was sent through as an applicant via a recruitment agency for Customer Service Advisor for a factory that produces nappies, toilet paper etc. I know the company well as they are well known around here so was rather excited.

I arrived 10 mins early to my slot as requested, sat in the atrium for 20 mins, whjen a man approached me shook my hand and explained he was not part of the interview process, however was sitting in as he was looking for candidates for hsi department too, so may ask a few questions . Much to myu dismay it was a huge boardroom, the lady interviewing me at the top of the table, myself opposite another lady and the man at the other end. Firing 18 questions at me..one after another with a few more to boot. I answered them the best i could...however had been told it was going to be an 'informal' chat ike interview. They then told me the job was for a logistics firm and it was HR Admin (wages, traingn records, sickness records etc). Ermmmmmmm WHAT??? So i had been talking about customer service complaints, targets etc when i needn't of...GREAT!

I felt awful!

However i went to an interview after that at a GORGEOUS Hotel for a shift supervisor recpetionsit position (that i applied for over the internet). Got home at 6.30 after my crappy shift in retail and had a message to call them back asap. I GOT THE JOB! WOOHOOOOOO! They interviewed 5 others before me and still have 3 to interview next week (a temp position is now available).

But i am so chuffed....will have to call the agency tomorrow and tell them i can't accept the job even if i am offered it.

Exactly the same problem here, Hubby not working so I am going back to work. I really want to work with Adults who have special needs and had an interview last week but the shifts are only 8-2 and 2-8 so a 5 day week woulf be 30 hours and thats not enough but I don't want to do double shifts to make up the hours. The shifts cant budge so I don't think I will take it

LoveMyGirls · 22/02/2006 09:48

magnolia have you thought about care work? i had an interview for this yesterday and i can work eve's weekends and the pay is ok - about £600 a mth after tax for 24hours a week. you can work FT if you want to.

magnolia1 · 23/02/2006 12:52

I have done care work for 16 years on and off
I want something that is either term time like teaching assistant or care work where the shifts are not 6 hours but maybe 8 hours to make it actually worth going. If I do a 5 day week with 6 hour shifts its 30 hrs which is not enough
