I childmind, & I employ 2 other childminders.

They are great, really fab - flexible and supportive

They have suggested that I go away in April (& I've booked Disney) - but have suggested that they want more than their normal acting up rate - which seems reasonable
I normally pay £5.30 and up it to £6 phr when DH or I are out (as they are in sole charge)

So what would be reasonable as an additional rate (and should it be on top of the ordinary rate or a higher rate)

My Dad suggested a flat rate

(BTW I am already losing about £120 just employing them the extra hrs that I normally work....but I really want this holiday)

bump for you katy, but no help I'm afraid.

Thanks Aero

I just found out my friend gets an extra 35p an hour to run a Civil Service office so I'm thinking the 70p extra an hour they already get might be enough?

Since you have already established a higher rate (£6), stick to it.

Have you established escalation procedures - i.e. what to do in emergency situations? Should they call you on holiday, if necessary? Will you call them while you are away?

No ClerkKent - but I will be leaving them a list of numbers eg Network Co-ordinator, my mum & dad (if something goes wrong with the house or cat) - they are C/Mers in their own right so carry PLI & membership to NCMA

I don't know at what stage they would contact me - I hadn't hought of that
