CV help please - how to phrase SAHM

Hi,

Writing a CV - nightmare! In the bit about employment history, do I put that I've been a SAHM for the past 2 years? What is the correct way to word this in a CV? Stay at home parent?

Thanks!

I put 'raising young family' and no-one queried it.....to be honest, millions of mums (and dads) have stay-at-home breaks so I wouldn't worry about dressing it up too much!

Thanks timetosmile, that is a 'no frills' description!

That's what I'd put too.

I agree but also depending on what job you are going for do remember to include any skills you have gained during this time. May sound stupid but I got a job as an operations manager after sahm for 20 years. I met negotiation, logistics criteria and a few more I forget now. Obviously, I only used this to meet the job spec but it worked.

I didn't mention it in my CV, but put it in my covering letter.

I said I took a career break of x years to raise my family. During this time I developed and improved many skills, including time and task management, conflict resolution and negotiation. I also used the time to run a small ebay business from home and assist in the running of a local charity group. (insert anything else remotely relevant).

I finish mine with the last job, 2.6 years ago, and the on the "personal" bit I put "the reason why I have been unemployed for the past 2.6 years is because I wanted to concentrate on rising my child"

Don't put that you were unemployed - that suggests to me that you were trying to find work but failing... 'Economically inactive' is the correct term I think (although this also doesn't sound great - raising a young family is a much better description!).
