did it all worked out well for you being on the national minimum wage? as im looking for a job (compared to my last job) £7.20ph but the jobcentre is trying to put me on the national minimum wage but they will top up (to how much though?)

our outgoings cost is £900 pm (DP is also on the national minimum wage too) and also im concerned about the childcare cost too if IR are willing to pay so much

Do you know how many hours you will be working at minimum wage? And how much money it will be? Also DPs earnings a month? If so I think you will be able to work out how much tax credits you will get here Put in all your details and at the very bottom it gives you an income including tax credits. HTH

If you both do 40 hours at £5 per hour, it will give you an income of just over £20000 pa before tax. That is £1733 per calendar month. You will probably lose about £60 per week between you for tax and NI, leaving you with £17680 pa, which is £1473 per calender month.

These figures don't allow for child benefit or tax credits, dp and I earn slightly less than this between us and we recieve tax credits, plus money towards childcare which I use to pay for my son's preschool. We get about £30 tax credits per week.

Lots of people manage on the minimum wage, dp and I managed on a minimum wage single income for ages until he got a job, but then we have a HA house so the rent is cheap.

as the mortgage is £414.20 pm so its very high

Would still leave you with over £1000 pcm after paying the mortgage.

biglips · 04/02/2006 11:27

dp can only do 30 hrs as he works for a window cleaning company

that would only drop the estimated income by £200 per month. Still very doable IMO.

biglips · 04/02/2006 17:29

so the £200pm will be for childcare cost, travel expenses, foods .......?

as teh outgoing £900 does not inc the above
