Teaching in a Prison

Hello, does anyone on here teach (or has taught) in a prison? I have taught in FE for a number of years and Im considering applying for a vacancy to teach in a prison. Just wondering if anyone has experience of this and can maybe tell me what the reality is like to teach in such a custodial environment.

Thanks

Can't help you, but it sounds like a fascinating job!

I work in the education wing of a prison, library not teaching. As far as I can tell the teachers enjoy it. They are restricted in the numbers of prisoners who they teach etc, whereas the library can be a bit of a free for all. Yo will have to go trhough fairly rigorous checks and a key talk. I really enjoy it and have employed for a full time job through the NHS to work in the healthcare centre. The prison I work in is mainly remand and a Cat B so have a high turnover of prisoners.
