Paternity Pay and Leave...

DP's company is trying to make him set a precise date for when he takes his paternity leave...as in the exact day! The baby isn't due until 6/4, but ds was 2.5 weeks late by the time he came out, Dp could well spend his leave watching me eat curry!

I am not happy about this, and am sure he can just say "On the day the baby is born, I want my leave to start" but there is no option for this on the form they have sent him. Just a date to fill in!

Am I wrong, does he have to set a precise date?

Following lifted from DTI web site Colditz - so he can say from the day the baby is born if that is what he/you want. HTH

They can choose to start their leave:

· from the date of the child?s birth (whether this is earlier or later than expected), or

· from a chosen number of days or weeks after the date of the child?s birth (whether this is earlier
or later than expected), or

· from a chosen date later than the first day of the week in which the baby is expected to be bor

Thanks Gomez.

There isn't this option on the form he has been sent though. How can we make sure they acknowledge this choice as viable, does anyone know? Just write it on?

I would just write it on TBH. Has anybody given the idea that he can't or is it just the form making you think this?

colditz · 03/02/2006 11:19

Well, someone at work told him it wasn't an option. Their own list of paternity rights states it is an option. But it isn't listed as an option on the form.

It jsut says

"I would like my Paternity Leave to start on -/-/--

I have rung him and told him to ring the woman back and state, clearly and politely, that as there is not part on the form for the option he wishes to take as outlined in their own Paternity Rights leaflet, he will be writing it on himself...

I can be such a stroppy bint...

Nowt wrong with a good strop now and then. [smile.]

Colditz. Wanting your partner to begin paternity leave when you have his baby hardly qualifies you as a stroppy bint.

An HR form which requires a man topredict the exact date of the birth of his child is, however, taking beaurocracy to t new level.

I agree, how ridiculous to expect you to predict the date of birth! Seemingly his manager is aware that he is going to be heading off at some point soon and will just have to deal with it if it happens to be tomorrow!

The form will probably be the official one from the IR. It does ask for a specific date on there, just use your due date and make a note that it will be from the actual date of birth.

Don't blame his employer, blame the IR.
