Job Interveiw to ask or not to ask

I have in 45 minutes a phone second interview. It is for an US company and for a part time possition of 3 days a week. The possition is for Financial Accountant, with month end procedures. And here is the question. In my first interview (face to face) I asked how set was the 3 days, or will they be willing to accept 5 days (sames number of hours). It look for the answer that they are quite sure about the 3 days a week. Now I've realised that if I was to get the job and work 3 days (mon-tues and wed) some months those days wouldn;t coincide with the begining of the month so unable to do month end procedures unless I change the days of work for that week. Should I mention this at the phone interview? I don't know if it would go agaisnt me or not.

Ask its a fair question.

I would ask too. Good luck with the interview Smile

That sounds like a reasonable question, and I'd think you were being suite proactive as well. Can you be flexible on days to accommodate month end? That would stand you in good stead as well.

Thank for the replies. I can be flexible, that is not a problem. Unfortunately, during the conversation, I did ask, but I don't know if I made my self understood properly,(very nervous as English is not my mother tongue, as I am originally from Spain). So now I am feeling I might not get the job Sadbecause not of what I asked but by not making my point clearer.
Well, is nothing I can do now, just wait until tomorrow or Monday to get the phone call with the outcome.

Sorry to hear it didn't go well. Am surprised it was even an issue.
My company, and dh's, both with US Parent Co's run m/e on a 4, 4, 5 week basis. So m/e is on a different date each month, each year. But its always the same day. Month ends on a friday. So the month end proceedure always start on a monday, the following monday. So you needing to change your days would never happen/never be an issue. Shame. Hope something else comes up for you.

Hi Oblomov,
This is how in my last job was run, but at the first interview they say they run calendar. So month end start the first working day of the month, whatever day of the week it is, which is fine if staff works 5 days a week, but not so fine if they work less than 5 days.
Well, one good thing is that they have an office in Spain, so that I am very fluent in Spanish is a plus point in my favour, as the office in England has to do the accounts for the spanish office as well.
I am still keeping all my fingers ( and toes) crossed for a good outcome.

It is a fair point, would it be feasible for you to work 5 days the week where you are doing month end, and only 1 day the following week, so that over a 2 week period during month end work, you actually work 6 days, but with an uneven spread, or would that not work at all? (I would imagine that during month end it is beneficial to be doing a full week, rather than 3 days worth of hours spread over 5 days, all depending on how busy they are)

CeciC · 22/03/2012 21:42

Hello QuintesssentialShadows,
I don't know if they would like this solution. For myself it would be fine. I wouldn't mind doing a full week once a month a less days during the month. If I get the position I might ask.
I don't know how busy they are. That is something that until you start a job you don't know. They are not a very big business, even thought they are a Plc, they are quite small.
For now, just trying to be optimistic ( usually I am a person who see the glass half full, never half empty). Part time positions are not very common, and this one is 10 minute drive from my house, so very local. But I shouldn't have long to wait to know.
