Recruitment Agencies & the law

Can anyone tell me if there is a time frame concerning an introduction by a recruitment agency?

If you are interviewed by a company and don't get the job but a year later the job is still available, can you contact the company direct and does the company have any obligations to the recruitement agency that introduced you a year ago?

It will depend on the terms and conditions the company agreed to in their contract with the agency. Normally after a year it's fine, 6 months is a common time frame for an introduction fee to be applicable, but it's an issue between the company and the agency, not something you need to worry about.

you're right, it's not my problem, just wonder if it would put the company off reconsidering my CV if I contacted them direct. I don't think the recruitment agency did a good job of selling me; my CV doesn't check one box but given the job is still open I think we can work on that. Feedback was otherwise positive.

If it were between you and another candidate and it was a couple of months after the agency introduced you, therefore a fee was payable, then yes it might have a bearing. But a year on I would be very surprised if there is any obligation to pay an introduction fee so any decision they make will be just about you.

Good luck!
