Just that, where can you get good advice without paying a fortune?

Can anyone recommend an agency etc that they used?

Thanks

Two thoughts:

  1. Sometimes it's less careers advice that is needed and more along the lines of coaching ie 'what I really what to do is X but I don't think I can' and coach says 'yes you can, you can do it, let's work out how'. Might only be one session's worth of coaching - depends.

  2. You could also try a couple of careers books. How To Get A Job You'll Love by John Lees is a good one.

DD is phoning agencies specialising in her chosen area, and basically asking what they would like from a prospective employee.

She has had coaching, but hasn't found it particularly helpful.

The National Careers service has a website. I used the local careers service and my old uni one and all I got really was info on possible careers. In the end I actually found the advice from intelligent friends who knew me more useful. Careers advisrs often do not know you so cannot help that much Also so much depends on factors such as the availability of jobs in the area you want to work.

Hi - I agree that coaching is probably the way to go as it helps you focus on where you want to be from the starting point of where you are now. The hardest part is the in between, i.e. what you need to do to get there.

I am curently working specifically with mum returners on areas such as self exploration, goal setting and confidence building. I also work with Mums on CV writing skills and interviewing hints/tips.

I would love to have an inital chat with you to see how I could help. Let me know if you want to connect.
