Provisional selection for redundancy while on maternity leave

My baby is almost 8 months old and I have received a letter from my employer saying I have been selected provisionally for redundancy. It is only my position and the reason is due to a reduction of funding available. They want to hear my views on it and for me to suggest any other jobs I could do ! Surely it's not for me to suggest what jobs there are? Until now I had assumed my current job was okay!
I am pretty upset with them as they weren't very helpful when I was pregnant either and they do seem to be unfavourable to pregnant women ( a colleague of mine wrote a letter of complaint during the lead up to her m leave) .
I feel that although I need my job I can't work for a company I don't trust or feel value me anymore.
Any advice?

Also, sorry, they have said that the work being done has ceased and they want me to reflect on any possible roles for discussion....I am out of the loop and so feel it's not for me to make those suggestions but for them to propose alternative solutions if they exist. Although I was full time before maternity leave I had thought about maybe reducing my days or hours but I wanted to go back first. I've been there for 9 years and earn a decent salary! It will be hard for me to look fir work while off on maternity leave too. Statutory redundancy would not cover me for more than about a month and a halts salary so it's not much of a buffer and does not help me to mitigate my losses. I've used the direct gov redundancy calculator to work it out.

If they've lost the funding for your role then it's quite logical for the role to go too, otherwise they will have to lose budget from elsewhere. From a totally unbiased point of view it sounds as if they don't actually want to lose you, but want to explore what other types of roles you might be happy doing. Which is perfectly reasonable. And I think it's also reasonable to ask you to think about what you might be happy to do ahead of a meeting so that you can have a productive conversation when you do meet with them. I honestly don't see it as being anything sinister. I'd advise you to call them, ask if you can meet them and go in with an open mind and ask them if they have roles available that you can discuss.

I was in a similar situation (do you work for a charity?) I was made redundant. They have to offer you any other jobs available, but that might mean a paycut. You need to get a copy of your staff handbook/ redundancy policy. Are you in a union?

The first meeting is to discuss the situation; you can then submit a counter proposal, if that is unsuccessful you may be able to appeal. Take notes at the meetings.

You should also get pay in leiu of notice (pilon) and accrued holiday pay. I also got a consideration for loss of earnings. In total I got about six months pay.

I really feel for you; it's a terrible position to be in and I was very, very hurt at the way I was treated. Feel free to pm me.
