i have an interview tomorrow and im very keen to get this job. however, ive come down with this horrible flu type bug going around. im dizzy, ive walked into things and nearly fell over lots of times in the last few days. my brain has disappeared over the last few days. (ahem, yes more than usual) i cant get my words out and cant think what im doing. i dont want to cancel but will it be worse if i go? or will they think better of me lol! i know im going to lose out, i cant think of the answer to a simple question let alone what the interviewer is likely to ask.

adrenaline will help

frankly I wouldn't bother with someone who was sick on interview day - it's not a good omen

good luck

What type of organisation is it? I have done many interviews and I would probably make some allowances if I saw the person was sick but probably not enough. If you think they may be reasonable I would probably reschedule.

Difficult one.

mp do you mean you wouldnt bother with someone sick who didnt turn up, or someone sick who did? im just doomed then really? im happy to go so long as im not making it all worse by walking in with a snotty tissue ready for action

perhaps make sure you have a clean tissue handy rather than an old snotty one! and dose yourself up with medecine before you go in and hope the adrenaline will carry you through.

i think cancelling for a cold doesn't look good, unfortunately.

good luck

I mean is someone didn't turn up because they were sick

But if they WERE below par then you would make allowances

You'll be surprised what you can do once the adrenaline starts pumping

Feistybird · 31/01/2006 20:28

Go - definitely, it will show willing.

And it's amazing how much better you can feel in 24 hours

Well it is a bit late now, but I would have tried ringing in and explaining, as sometimes another interview time is possible. But it is risky, as if other people are better on the day unless you looked fantastic on paper you might get overlooked. So I would probably go for the dosing right up approach (and hope that the medicines didn't make me behave oddly!) Good luck - hope that you feel better tomorrow!

How did it go Nightowl?

Being a pimp, we've just produced a guide on getting a job in our niche market, so this is quite topical. I'm vaguely worried by the use of "interview" singular, you are spreading your net widely aren't you ?

Interviews are like any other form of single combat, you need practice. So after a career break, get as many as possible, even on the edge of what you want or can get.

nightowl · 10/02/2006 20:54

well its been a week and a half and ive had no letter, rejection or otherwise. im assuming i didnt get the job.

the interview went well i thought. i was confident and put forward some good points (although it wasnt easy, interviewer was more keen on telling me about company, showing me offices, than asking me anything).

i think that if i havent got the job (more than likely) then it wasnt because of anything i did in the interview. a more suitable candidate perhaps? although i have more than enough experience and qualifications for the position i know that someone with a driving licence and fluent in other languages may have been more desirable. (its the uk branch of a foreign company, directors are foreign).

its ok though. every interview i have is experience so i just have to keep trying. i wish that rejection letter would hurry up though. find it strange that such a place wouldnt bother to send me one. annoying.
