They are changing from giving us allocation in 'hours' instead of 'weeks'

So normally we allocated say 4 weeks. From now on it will be the equivalent (apparently) in hours.

privatisation is on the horizon, so could it be linked to that? Company is meant to be cutting costs so why spend all this money changing the system?

I am wary this will mean reduced leave. I am PT, currently working 20hr entitled to 4wk 3days every year. Can this amount change?

What benefit does this provide to the company?

assume you mean holiday allocation?

if in hours not weeks, it will be the same amount, its just a bit more accurate

dont know what benifit it gives the company but we have annual hours entitlement & it is realy easy. I means you can book hours holiday easily without the need to take 1/2 days etc.

The company I used to work for did the same quite a few years ago, and I think for them it was linked to utilising the HR module of SAP which accounted for holiday time this way. I remember there being an advantage to us employees, in that it meant you could use some holiday hours as literally that (i.e. needing to leave early, take time off for an appointment etc) rather than taking a whole/half day in each case. It shouldn't make any difference to the number of hours you receive, you should just account for them differently.

Are you in the NHS? We got changed to the hours system a couple of years ago. Something to do with the introduction of the electronic staff record. It has made no difference to how much holiday I have at all.

We do annual hours as well and, I agree, it'll probably be due to a bought-in system. Means, in theory, it can cope with lots of different working patterns.

My manager did mention something about SAP parttimedomesticgoddess, but he didn't elaborate. And then couldn't answer any questions Hmm

I get my leave in hours, and can take just one hour if I want to, rather than a half day if I only want an hour or two. Love it.

Agree with others, this just means they can be more accurate. Also allows for reduction or increase in contracted hours during holiday year.

I just found out some more info and it seems my line manager will be in charge of all annual leave when this new system is introduced.

I have already had issues of harassment with this manager and he already stops me changing any allocated leave I have. This isn't too much of an issue as annual leave is dealt with by someone else, so only becomes a problem when I need to change a day.

But if he has control over all my leave I fear I will never get any leave when I want it. Do you think this is worth mentioning to the union or a senior manager?

To claify, annual leave is allocated in bulk in September by the Annual Leave clerk. If I need to change this allocation, I have to go through my manager. Atm this is the only time he can affect my leave.

With the new system he will be allocating the whole of my leave, all four weeks.

I get my holidays in hours because of the HR system we use. It doesn't sound like there's anything sinister going on

Leave is allocated on seniority. In September you select the leave you want, giving extra options incase your first choices are taken by those with more seniority.

Only so many people are allowed off at one time.

You get your slips back telling you what leave you have been given for following April though to March. This is all done by the annual leave clerk.

If I have to change these days, as they are booked so far in advance, my line manager has to authorise it. And, in my case, he isn't. There is always a reason why I can't have it.

I'm now worried as my manager is taking over the whole process. I fear I stand no chance of ever getting a week off when I want it.
