How did you find your current (or most recent job)?

Just curious really. I'm wondering how true the theory is that the best jobs are never advertised.

I'm a teacher and was offered a job by the school where I did my final teaching practice. I still had to fill-in an application form and have an interview but they made it clear all along that it was just a formality.

I found my job through an online agency. Most people I know also did the same.
But I also have a friend who was temping and got to know a vacancy and got the job pretty much the same way as you did. We are not teachers though.

My DH was working there and knew there was a vacancy, which had only been advertised on the company's website at the time. I applied and was the only applicant for the job! (but that was 5 years go, things might be different nowadays!). Although to be fair I had to go through 2 pretty tough rounds of interviews and they made me sweat a couple of weeks before I got an offer!!!

Jobsite, applied had interview next week and was offered the job on the day. This was 2 years ago. I'm not a teacher though and the jobs online do seem a bit thin on the ground.

I went and asked my old boss for my job back. I had to apply and was interviewed but more formality. Been back almost 2 years now

I hadn't worked in my field for years, but needed a job. So I posted my details on Linkedin and within a week had an email from a bloke in HR in my current company that they'd be interested in meeting me. I had a telephone interview with him, and was invited in to meet several senior managers for an afternoon and was offered a job. I was amazed because I had been out of the market for so long, but it's turned out to be a good fit.

I answered an ad, so that blows your theory :o

I only replied to the ad because this employer never ever ever ever advertises jobs like mine externally, and I was more curious than anything. I never expected to get it.

My first proper job, which was my gateway job in to my career, I didn't answer an ad at all. My sister was working at the company and she knew they needed juniors, so I came in. They gave me a day's trial, I liked it, they liked me. I was there for 9 years before I moved to my current job :o

advert on company's website - don't think they advertise anywhere else - and don't think many people applied - I had very relevant experience - I was only on the website by chance

I sent my CV on spec and was offered an interview a few days later - they were recruiting for maternity leave and i was offered the job straight away.

Im still there a year later and fingers crossed about to be made permanent.

Pure luck that i emailed at that particular time

Very similar Daisybug- I was a student nurse on management placement- I was told that there would be a position- I applied formally and got the job.

Applying to newspaper ads seems to be the least likely way to find a job IME. I've always had mine through agencies and specialist journals.
