about to finish a degree in English but havent completed, will complete this summer
experience (all brief though) in direct selling, door to door, pubs, event management, general admin, telesales + marketing, now im working in a shop doing retail work, dont flame me, but its not me, I want a career, with prospects - and I feel totally clueless what to do

ive found a job advert for a job for legal secretary, I have the qualifications, just not the "experience"

Might be a good idea to scroll through the job pages of the newspapers and job sites and see what catches your eye. Make notes of the key words and phrases. Hopefully you will be able to pick out some patterns in terms of jobs, industries and environments that interest you.

I would think very carefully about going the Legal Secretary route unless you are thinking about working towards being a Legal Executive. They will probably want someone with experience and there is loads of audio typing in legal work. Also, it is very easy to be pigeonholed as a PA. I was one for quite a long time and I too have a degree.

If I had my time again I would get out there and do loads of work experience. It's the only way you will know if you are suited to certain roles and environments.

Best of luck!

Very hard to gain work experience when looking after 2 (+1) small DC.

Oh blimey! You will have your work cut out...

Well, knowing what I know now I would proceed down the NHS/local government route if I had children. Far more women overall, far more women in senior positions, far more women working part-time and far more flexible in terms of hours. Benefits still seem to be better than a lot of companies in industry and even nurses seem to be pretty well paid these days. A job I didn't contemplate back in the day because most of the girls who went into nursing didn't even stay on at school to do A Levels. Now you need a degree. I must be getting old!!!
