Family friendly jobs. Do they exist?

I currently work part time in retail but am trying to look for another job that fits in with being a mummy! Retail working hours are pretty rubbish, including weekends and bank holidays which I can't work due to childcare. My boss is more or less saying if everyone else has to work weekends/bank holidays why shouldn't I. I am also dreading when DS starts school next year with all the school holidays. I can request to work term time but other staff have done this before and it's never accepted. So, do Monday-Friday jobs exist and what are they?? Retail is all I know, 17 years of it since leaving school. Any ideas?

Retrain? Retail is notoriously not family friendly!

I work for a local authority. 35 hours a week, flexi time. Generic office job. P/t also available, which several of my colleagues do. Termtime working also available but I don't know anyone who does it.

The main advantage is it's near home/ the DCs' school, so I can drop them off every day. I pick them up from school at 3.30 two days a week, but can't afford the time the other 3 days - mix of DH and FiL pick them up.

I have to say I do have to work the odd evening or Saturday if we have a consultation event, but it's very rare and there's plenty of notice so I can tee up childcare easily. Of course if you are a single parent it would be a pain in the butt. This working pattern is quite unusual for someone of my lowly grade - most of my colleagues don't have to do it but it's in my contract.
