First interview in years. Need a bit of advice.

I have just been called to go for a job interview in 2 days time and I feel like a quivering lump of jelly!

I was really confident when I filled in the application and wrote my covering letter. I know that I can do the job and have all the skills they need and lots of relevant past experience. I also know that there has been a lot of interest in the position, though I can't imagine many applicants would have direct experience of the role (I could be wrong). I would love to work for the employer and in particular do this job and TBH, we really could do with the money.
BUT, I have been out of the proper workplace for years. Am partly SAHM and self-employed with my own small direct sales business and also employed part-time by DH to do his admin. I haven't had an interview for years.

Am now stressing about what to wear. I think I should wear a suit to the interview even if I wouldn't be wearing one in the job. The only suit I have is about 18 years old and although in immaculate condition, it probably looks deeply old-fashioned and a bit frumpy. I can't afford to buy anything new (another reason that I need this work). Sad

I am swotting like mad on the employer & the job but am worried that my mind will go blank when I'm asked a question. I can't think of any questions to ask them. Does anyone have any top tips for interviews?

questions should be based around the job/person spec. Other questions might be the classics: something you feel proud of achieving, strengths/weaknesses, where do you want to be 5 years, why you want the job etc.
Questions to ask them: priorities for that role, career progression, prospects for the company.
some good books available in my library.

re suit - can you update with a new top (bear in mind forecast for unseasonably warm weather).

Very best of luck to you.

Thank you, Pickgo.

Tried suit on yesterday and thank goodness it still fits. I have a shirt that looks nice with it. It actually looks not too bad now I've seen it all on (it's fairly classic grey suit, not wildly out of fashion as it was never wildly in fashion to begin with).

Good idea to look at job spec as a starting point. Seems obvious now. Blush
Have found some good online help re interview questions and am working through them.

Am feeling much more confident today. Hope I still am tomorrow.Smile

Adding to pickgo's list re the job/person spec. Also, examples that demonstrates you have the qualities requested in the spec.

Good luck.
