Help - cutting salary, hours, holiday and pension in half - but not my job!

I'm about to go back to work after seven months maternity leave. The company I work for - notoriously un-child-friendly - have agreed by some miracle to let me come back part-time. This is quite unusual in itself. I've managed to get them to agree to me cutting my hours in half and will work four five-hour days per week. They've sent me a letter to confirm that my salary, hours, pension, holiday etc is all now halved, but the one thing they haven't made is any cuts to my workload. In fact, they make it clear that they expect me to continue my role as before. I'm really grateful that I can now work part-time (hope that doesn't make me sound like a snivelling wimp) but can suddenly see that I must have 'Deal of the Week' flashing above my head in neon lights. I'm going to be doing the same job at half the price! Shouldn't we have talked about how my role would be cut too? Any thoughts much appareciated.

Am just going to tribunal with my ex employers as a result of this.

Have you agreed to anything yet?

You need to sort out the aspects of reduced workload before you go back or they will never do anything about it. I speak from experience here......

CAT me if you want - i will tell you what i can.

Please, please, please get your reduced workload agreed in writing before you go back. I went back in September after a year's maternity leave pretty much on the terms you have mentioned - ie. reduced pay, pension etc. but, it ended up with very very little reduction in duties.

I had a very good relationship with my boss and we had talked in vague terms about the changes that would be made. However, after I came back, I discovered that he still expected me to do all the things I was doing before.

DO NOT expect others within the company to understand what it means to work part time. You absolutely must get it completely agreed in writing before you go back.

The upshot of my situation is that I made the decision to leave and move to another job which is offered and arranged as a part-time job as my old situation simply wasn't compatible with the life I wanted with my family.

CAT = Contact Another Talker. Go to the top and choose this option - it should tell you what to do.

I have just read the messages on this thread. Did your company sort out your work load K7? I would also like to reduce my part time hours from 18 to 15 or 16 hours per week, so that I can collect my daughter from school from September.
Is it worth considering reducing some of my work load, as my salary and pension would also be reduced? Or should I try and make up the two or three hours from home, which my boss would probably be be less keen on? Any comments would be welcomed.
