Never did i think id have the guts to even consider this thought BUT. There is a building that hasnt been used for 1 year next to the pre-school i used to work at. OOOOOOH i really just want to break in, change the locks & claim it as mine ALL MINE to set up as a creche. Where do i start? Im only 20! (21 in august...feel so much older though). Kids & employees arent just going to turn up on my doorstep with resources to go in there. Oh well a girl can dream.

This is called 'Childcare on non-domestic premises' and is regulated by Ofsted - see this guide for the registration requirements. One significant requirement is that there must be two suitable people on site at all times, one of which must have a childcare qualification (at least NVQ 3).

There are a few people on the childminders etc. topic who do this, or have considered doing it.

Would i need to do some management training? I already have a NVQ 3 in childcare learning & development but thought maybe management training in childcare would help me feel more confident about doing this. As for te 2 suitable people on site would they have to both be female? I noticed where i used to work we employed a male & the difference to the kids was amazing.

Have you talked to your local Council/Families Information Direct service? Ours provides some support for those considering setting up a childcare setting.

They might also be able to advise on occupation rates of existing settings, to help you work out if there is the demand - you need to be lead by that I think?

Good luck, definitely investigate it. Don't let your age stop you.
