Private client lawyer - been sahm for 6 years - don't know what to do.....

I trained as a private client lawyer in a top flight London firm. I had my dcs in quick succession and have therefore been a sahm for just over 6 years now. Both dcs now in full time school so I am looking to dip my toe back into the job market.

I loved the client aspects of my job but hated the bureaucracy. I don't know whether to look at going back into private practice ( would anyone be interested in me after all the time out?) or try to use my skills elsewhere?

I have been head of school PTA, part of a major project fund raising committe for the school and am a school governor, so I have a few extra skills.

Any experiences / advice greatly appreciated!

No idea what job Market is like for private client lawyers but presume you've phoned a few recruitment agents to find out? It might be wise to approach temp lawyer agencies too if permanent job Market is slow. Worth calling law society up too to check what to do about your membership if you're no longer on the roll.

Ps in the meantime you can also obtain relevant commercial law experience by volunteering for charities

Hi
I am in a similar situation. I have been off for 7 years and my area is family law. I feel like a complete change, but worry that at 37 I am too old and wasting my qualifications.

Contact the law society and find out about refresher courses. I'm sure an updating course would really help with confidence. Then maybe contact some agencies and temp for a while to gain confidence and experience. I wish I was happy to return to the same area of law, it would make life far easier. Good luck in what ever you decide.

Thanks. I'm same age as you and not ready to throw it all away, but I really want to continue being around for my children. It's a tough one.

Good Luck. I hope everything works out ok for you as well.
