Hi.

Please could someone help me?

I completed my maternity leave over 3yrs ago and didn't return to my job as I decided to stay at home with my little girl :)

Now pregnant with my 2nd child it's occurred to me that by the time the next one is 3 I'll have not paid any NI for around 5yrs. Does anyone know how I stand with regards my state pension? Should I still be making contributions? What do I need to tell the Inland Revenue, what forms etc????? Confused!

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
Mary.

I think it comes under home responsibilities protection as part of your CB but I'm not 100%

You are credited with Class 3 NI contributions automatically if you are receiving child benefit for a child under 12. Class 3 Contributions count towards your state pension but do not count towards some benefits so if you tried to claim contribution based JSA or ESA you would not qualify.
So basically any years where you are claiming Child Benefit for a child under 12 will count towards your qualifying years for your state pension.
This did used to be called Home Responsibilities Protection but are now called Parent's and Carer's Credits.
I have no idea what will happen when child benefit becomes means tested Confused
