Hi
I'm wondering this - if i put the children in cc for lets say one or two days a week then estimate how much i might earn on working just some of those days per month (i wont get work on both days) how on earth do the tax credits know how many hours you ended up working???? I know they find out how much you earnt via p60 but not hrs) I just did it for one days in cc per week but estimated hours and money as just two days a month and i get enough to cover the one day each week in cc so i'm guessing if i worked 4 days a month the other two would be pocket money? Anyone solved this problem. Hubbie is lowish earner, thanks in advance

ok done some calculating and just to add to this...
if i put that cc was for 2 days a week and lets say i am available for all 8 days a month but only work 2 of them so i put my earnings in based on that but the hours as 16p/w it covers the cc each week nicely
ok so as i might end up working more than that it still covers the cc but goes down a few pounds the more i earn - i can live with this
however, we know that i wont be working 16 hrs so i put the same scenario as above but changed it to 6hrsp/w - it was crap, wouldnt cover cc
so as we are quite well paid as supply only for a day say - how do they know how many hrs you actually worked and why do the hrs matter???

I think you have to estimate and then correct at the end of the year. That's what self-employed people have to do.

Re your last point - tax credits are only for people working more than 16 hours a week (soon rising to 24 I think).

thanks bramshott but as i understand the 24 rule is between you as a couple and hub is full time
just laughed at myself tho cos i forgot about the holidays and not being able to work at all! but still paying cc!!!
any supply teachers as mums out there with kids in cc???
