Sick kids - worried!!!

I started a new job on the 1st February after having been home with DS2 since he was born (18 months).
On monday night our childminder got sick so DH stayed home with DS2 for two days until childminder could have him again. (She had only been sick monday night so thought it would be ok after 48 hours, Thursday.)

On Thursday afternoon she phones me to tell me DS2 had been sick, I left work to pick him up and they were being really good about it. I phoned them Friday morning and told them I couldn't come in as I had to look after DS2 (DH had already had two days off this week). Again they were being really nice about it and understood that I wanted to stay home to look after him.

DS2 has been sick all weekend and this morning DS1 got sick as well. DH is really nice and says he will stay home and look after them all week if he needs to as I'm new at my job.

But now I'm worried about me or DH getting sick so that I have to stay home for a few days anyway, what do you think my employer will think if I have loads of days off the first couple of weeks?

It's a really good job and I would hate losing it or having them think less of me, the kind of person whp "throws sickies" straight away!!!

It's a very male dominated workplace and all men with kids have SAHMs so not sure if they've had the problem of staff having to take time off with sick kids before.

There is bo way to tell really! Does your Enployer have a written policy On child care issues?

Sorry you are in such a difficult situation.

Is there any option of working from home in emergency situations?

I am going to ask if it would be possible to work from home when they are poorly, my husband can do this which is lucky. However this is only really an option when DS1 is poorly as he is older, DS2 is only 18 months and needs a lot of attention.

There is no policy on child care issues, they said they are 'child friendly' during my interview whatever that means. They gave me plenty of time to organise childcare before I started.

Keeping my fingers crossed I'll be ok to work this week, hoping the bug isn't too nasty. I keep cleaning everything and everywhere with bleach in the hope it will spare us!
