Ideas for careers, anyone?

Don't know if this is the right place for this post, but here goes...

I'm a SAHM, did my bachelors and masters in subjects that weren't vocational. Ten years later, i'm desperate to do something/start a career once the DCs are old enough.

Very very gratefully, money is not an issue. big catch is that I'm abroad, and career opportunities here are very scarce. Retraining would have to be via online courses etc. I've spent way too much time exploring all options - but everything draws a blank (teaching requires UK based practical experience, accountancy needs 3 years in a practical setting, I could go on...)

Just wondered if any MNers had some ideas for me, I've had many a chat with family and friends and just cant work out whats right for me and my circumstances. I'm open to anything (probably the biggest problem as everyone says 'do what you love...' hmm dont know what that is!)

Please help!

Hmmm, well finding what you want to do is tough. If you are then going to add to the mix that the entry route is do-able from where you are/ with time or money you have then it isn't getting any easier is it?

I recently needed to change career but had no clue to what, and no particular burning passion that would earn me money. So I put all my strengths and weaknesses down on paper, and all my wants / don't wants for job, i.e no shift work, career progression entry quals etc. Then I researched jobs which matched as close as possible the lists. I am currently qualifying for that job and am working on the basis that it will be as close a match to my character as a job can get as it fulfils the criteria. That said, you could end up hating any job for any number of reasons - but I had to start somewhere and it was a practical approach.

You must be bright and well organised as masters qual SAHM - could you get job as PA to director type stuff? They can be very influential etc.

Sorry I don't have more ideas - it isn't my forte or I wouldn't be needing to change career at my age myself! Wink But maybe the practical advice will help a bit.

However tho' I am not very inspirational myself maybe this site would help:

i could

though it is aimed more at young 'uns it has loads of ideas.

Could you start your own business if career ops are thin on ground where you are?
