Can anyone tell me if there is a legal limit that applies to flying for work during pregnancy?

On behalf of a friend who is 25 weeks today and has just been booked to fly to Aberdeen in late March.............just wants to know if she can leglly tell them not to book her any further trips?

All help appreciated.

Pretty sure that there isn't a legal limit, but they will need to check with airline what their policy is, as they tend to stop allowing people to fly from sometime after 28 weeks. Think some will fly up to 36 at absolute latest, but not sure which.

i don't think there is a legal limit. but a lot of airlines won't let you fly in the last trimester

Depends on the airline - they all have different limits - but after about 22 weeks most of them will want a doctor's note to say she's fit to travel.

Thanks guys - I'll let her know

I think it's after 28 weeks not 22

Might be - was 22 weeks when I was pregnant but that's five years ago now!

The only other thing to think about is insurance....I know my own personal travel insurance wouldn't cover me after 28 weeks but if your friend is flying for wok, this might be different. Agree with what everyone else has said though re limits. Most normal scheduled airlines will take someone after 28 weeks with a doctors note....

BA will fly you up to 36 weeks, Easyjet 34 and Monarch 32 with a doctor's certificate to say the pregnancy is low risk/normal.

I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to get a letter from her GP saying that she shouldn't be flying.

OTOH - what is the alternative? If she still had to go, would she have to make a long train journey?

Bugsy2 · 24/01/2006 12:33

I flew with work when I was 32 weeks. I had to have a letter from my GP to say that in his opinion I was fit to fly and I had to let the Company Secretarial department know so that they could check with their insurance department that I would be fully covered. Other than the airline accepting you, that is probably the most significant factor runtus. Ensuring that her company's insurance covers her.

She spoke to her MD yesterday afternoon and said she will go to the March meeting but her MW and her Dr will go mental if she flies again. As she had really bad DVT last time round (3 years ago) they accepted that on the spot...........think they realise they would be a bit daft to push at it with her medical background.

Thanks for the help guys!
