I can't work from home so if I can't get in they make me take it as holiday. Am dreading not being able to get in this week as I have no cover if the schools are shut and work is 10 miles away through snowy country lanes!

My point is what on earth is the difference from the employer's point of view? If you're asking for unpaid leave then it makes no earthly difference to them whether it's because you're ill or you're snowed in or what. Their position is totally ridiculous.

I don't have an option-I'm operational police staff. If I can't get in under my own steam, they'll come and get me in a 4x4Grin

My boss said "don't worry, we'll see you when we see you".

I love my job!

DH once worked for complete wankers (a big name computer company) who made employees come in to sign an attendance sheet then go home (as there dept was shut) if they wanted to be paid. This was when the AA and all the news channels were saying dont drive, this company was based quite far from bus routes or trains, so everyone had to drive in.

BustersOfDoom - I realise my post made it sound like today, it wasn't it was in a previous role.

The difference can be volume of staff, if everyone calls in then the country would grind to a hault. I got there because I took my time, literally 10 miles an hour, I gave a lift to another mos who lived close by. yes I was a manager but the weather doesn't know tgat a pave a path for me. The policy was tgat staff should attempt to come in and if not able to get to the office they may need to attend a more local one. Tbh there were a very small amount who did not come in, especially when compared to how many called. And no not cause I was a bitch, afterall they wouldn't make it in for a bitch.

Irresponsible employers like that should be charged handsomely for the extra inconvenience they cause to the emergency services when their poor employees clog up the roads. If the AA and the police say don't drive, then no responsible company should be forcing their employees to do so. Emergency workers only, and they should be provided with safe means of getting to and from work.

So there. Angry

Of course I am talking about whiteout conditions like we get up here, not a couple of cms.

Wish someone would come and collect me in a 4x4. I don't know what our policy is but I'm hoping I can work from home if needs be. We have full access to computer systems and my office phone can be diverted so anyone calling me wouldn't know I wasn't in the office.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the snow will go in time for Monday morning!

Have to use annual leave (NHS). I always leave a couple of days spare for this.
