Have got my first formal interview in a long time. I'm lucky to have no gaps in my CV over that time but last 2 job interviews have been informal "chats" this is a lot more full on.
Any tips?

Practice again and again. Find a list of potential interview questions, work out appropriate answers (without learning them off pat so you sound overly rehearsed) and then answer them out loud - interview yourself if there's no-one else around.

Decide three key reasons they should employ you as opposed to anyone else, and make sure you get those three key points into the interview.

Think of something intelligent to ask about the organisation.

Best of luck!

Remember that the interviewers desperately want you to be the perfect person for the job. They want you to do well, not badly.

Do not tell them that you couldn't be bothered to find out anything about the post as you'd been on holiday until today and then spent the morning making a pudding for a dinner party you were going to .

Do not end the interview by laughing uproariously and telling the interviewer, when he shakes your hand and refers to you as 'Richard', that actually all your friends call you 'Dickhead'

Try on your outfit well in advance, and get someone else to give an honest appraisal as to whether it fits.

Work out your four strongest selling points in terms of your abilities/experience.

Work out 3 examples for each strength.

Read this out loud many times so that you know it really well and you'll be able to give this info in a natural, confident way.

Look each interviewer in the eye in a positive friendly professional way and sit in a comfortable, centred way/ Good luck.

Make sure you do your homework! Learn everything you possibly can about the company, its competitors and the post and relevant news about the industry as well. I have done a fair bit of first round interviews and we have rejected candidates because they did not research what the company does.
