Thinking about re-training to get back to work eventually. Youngest started school this year. I am interested in nutrition as a subject but not sure what jobs it might lead to (apart from a nutritionist obv) and the best sort of course to look at. Anyone have any experience? I am 44 and have been a SAHM for past 4 -5 years. I am based in North London if thats any help.

I am in a similar position, SAHM for 6 years and looking to get back to work. I've just finished an OU course, Understanding Human Nutrition, as I thought I may have an interest In doing Diatetics. It's a level 1 course but I was surprised at how science based it was and it has made me question how far I want to take my interests. The course was excellent and excusing the pun, gave a lot of food for thought :) I still have no idea what I want to do though Confused

If you can train as a dietician, then NHS jobs will be an option (often good for part time etc).

You'll need to do a BSc in human nutrition, dietetics or something similar. As Freak says, it's very science-based. Apart from working for the NHS there are also nutritionists who work in private practice, for diet companies, education, etc. Really interesting area - I seriously considered switching degrees when I was in uni and doing it myself.

I would look at doing a "proper" degree not alot of the nutritional courses that are around with a view to working for the NHS at least for a while. I don't think there are alot of people around to pay alternative nutritional therapists money for consultation, although north London is a better area than most for this.
