Surviving Notice Period

Even though I know I've made the right decision to leave my job why do these last few weeks feel so totally dreadful? I feel guilty and stupid and a failure that it didn't work out. The strength of my feelings has really surprised me. I've bitten all my nails off and am hitting the booze.
Has anyone got any tips for getting through the final weeks please?!

because it is crap, doesn't matter if you loved the job, I have left 2 jobs I loved due to DH job and relocating and tbh the feeling was the same as the couple I hated, I just lost motivation and every moment dragged and with the 2 I loved a feeling of anger that I was leaving and the 2 I hated because I just wanted to leave, but I got to that point with the lovely jobs in the notice period, no point in feeling a failure, one of the jobs I hated I left was because I was shit at it! seriously I was a fucking liability and it took me a year to admit it and another few months to start to do something about it, I was also bullied in this job which just added to the whole shit sandwich...and no this bully didn't make me feel that I wasn't good at the job, this tragically would be a great excuse, I was just rubbish!
after I left my new job was also bloody awful, fat, frying pan... but I knew I was good at this job, so I moved and found a nice place.

No tips appart from head down do the bare minium without attracting attention and I have always done that classic counting down the days thing that you see in crap movies, calender with last day circled.

maybe try to plan every day first thing to be able to survive it/
my last job didn't work out, in the end they didn't make it permanent but i ma glad that was the case as I've found a nearly perfect one and within 10 days of starting search started it

I am writing it to sghow you that is is indeed possible, as when you are looking for the next one - it is going to be easier for you to know what you don't want

have you rewritten your CV yet? or are you planning to take few weeks off first?

Yes, ask what is expected of you by your boss. Are you supposed to do the job as if nothings happened? Do you need to write up handover notes? Can you surf the net til you have done it? Some places hate the leaver being involved you see and just want them to show up. Others want to punish the leaver by making them do everything right up to the last minute.

Stop worrying about them as I guarantee they are not worrying about you as they are now focused on the next person (or finding them). They will be over you already. Focus yourself on what you can do to get the next great job or whatever it is that you wish for. Thats where your energy should be expended.
