KIT days?

Should I be paid for KIT days? I'm going back to work after February half term (I'm a teacher), and doing two KIT days next week to prepare. My headteacher didn't know what they were when I asked her about them, so I had to explain as best I could myself. When I go in, I'm going to mention it to the school secretary to make sure that I do get paid for them, but I'm now having a panic thinking I've misunderstood the maternity rights guidelines, and I don't want to look like a wally asking to be paid when I'm not entitled to it!

You are entitled to work 10(?) KIT days and be paid for them, though you won't be paid til you go back officially. Just keep a note of the hours you do so hr can pay it in your first wage packet back.

You are not entitled to KIT days. KIT days are just so that if you and your employer mutually decide that it would be a good idea for you to work a few days during maternity leave, they can pay you for them without you losing your SMP.

You can't insist to be allowed to work them or to be paid, but on the other hand your employer can't insist you work them either, and you can refuse if you won't get paid for them.

I would expect your maternity policy to cover this sort of thing OP. I'm sure you will be paid for them though.

Just a note but you will only get your SMP topped up to the level of your normal salary for a day.

So if SMP is £20 a day and you're normally paid £60 a day, you will receive £40 on top of the SMP.

I did a few and found them really useful and it meant going back to work was a bit easier as I already had an idea what was going on in the office.
