Hi there

I've recently returned to work after mat leave. Before I went on mat leave I was involved in a project that I was told I'd be involved in when I returned. I did a lot of work for it and even inputted into it on my keeping in touch days.

Anyway the person that did my mat cover has now been kept on. He's doing the project work I was doing and although he has been kept on, on a 'temp basis' I was told in error by my bosses PA that this is a holding position as there is a job being organised for him. This job has just been advertised and is the outcome of the project work.

I have never been told I am no longer involved in the project despite it impacting on my role and the Director of the Dept emailed me today 'checking' that I had seen the ad for this job. Director doesn't know I know it's a done deal and I am sure is checking so that I can't say I wasn't updated on things at a later date.

When he was covering my role he really let things slip; there was a real backlog of work for me to sort out, he hadn't done staff appraisals which I've been asked to do (though I have said I can't as haven't been there) and I need to tell a temp worker that they no longer have any work as he wasn't able to do this. The team are all demotivated (2 were signed off with stress) but my boss won't acknowledge any of this. When I tried to suggest that things are in a state of chaos boss become quite defensive saying that my cover had done a great job and my team were just exaggerating things. It looks like my cover has just come in and networked to get a permanent job and let my team and role slip as he knows that it's me that has to sort it all out now.

I feel quite down about it all and wonder what I must being doing wrong to have worked somewhere for years but to be dumped for someone who was only in for 6 months. I've always worked really hard, am positive and try to do the best job I can. Anyone else ever experienced anything like this or have any words of wisdom/reassurance???

These peopke always get found out in the end Smile

Can you write everything down as a plan of action type doc. Staing tge issue, what action you are going to take, what action others need to take and the result/outcome. Use it as a base for discussion with your boss not about this other guy but about your and what you are doing iyswim?

Do you want the other job? If so apply, if not don't. Ive seen people in done deals not get it.

Your boss might be a bit blind to this gut right now but focus on you and your job, document everything that involves you, afterall you don't know what this guy has been saying whilst you were away.
