Hi please does anyone know about tax issues at work.I have two part time jobs and I think I am paying too much tax.I'm on BR tax bracket. But I don't think they are taking into account my personal allowance that I'm entitled to before I have to pay tax.I'm currently paying 22% tax on all of my wage.Is this right?I only earn about 5 and a half thousand a year total.Does it make any difference how much personal allowance my dh gets with his job?I have been told that the personal allowance is about 4 thousand and eight hundred pounds. Can anyone advise me please?

Your DH has no impact on your tax rate. You should be taxed at BR on one job and using your allowance on the other during the course of the year and then you will receive a rebate at the year end if appropriate.

Call your local tax office and provide details of employers, dates of employment etc. and they will sort it out for you.

If you only earn £5,500 ish in total from the two part time jobs you may want to get your personal allowance split between your 2 jobs so that you don't have to put in a claim for overpaid tax at the year end.

If you are paying 22% on the earnings from one job and your whole £4,895 code is allocated to your other job some of the tax free allowance will be being wasted during the year. This makes it necessary to make a claim at the year end for overpaid tax.

I know split coding can be done but you may have to be persistant in asking for it to be done.
