She will surprise you :) Normally when they are in a totally different environment they just somehow seem to adapt and fall asleep by themselves. It does help if you are confident that the nursery staff won't leave her to cry etc though if you are not comfortable with this. Some nurseries are happy to rock, walk or sling babies to sleep if you ask them.

Hi there,

My DS has only just started sleeping properly at nursery. He is almost a year old and started there in Mid September. For many weeks he just would not sleep - he feeds or is rocked to sleep at home. On the weekends he will have two good naps in the day, at nursery it was a good day if he slept for half an hour!

However, as he's become more settled he's gradually started to sleep for longer and will cuddle up with a nursery worker if he is tired.

My advice would be to try not to worry too much, speak to the nursery about what they do and what you do. Were my DS is they use rockers and swings which sometimes work but lately they have just started to gently rock and cuddle him and it seems to be helping.

I worried about the sleep issue a lot but really just had to go with the flow. Good luck, it's a scary thing to go through but you will soon both be used to it.

My DD slept in her cot fine at night at home, during the day she would not sleep in it at all. As a result I walked miles on maternity leave. She started Nursery at 1pm on the Thursday and by 5pm she had slept in a cot inside during the day.
Fortunately by Saturday she was able to transfer this skill to home and I was able to sit down for a while bliss.

I think they eventually get there in the end. Both my children started nursery at 6 months and despite being fantastic nappers and sleepers at home, struggled at first to nap in a noisy room.

My DD has been at the school for 2 years now and has no problems napping, sometimes they need to wake her. Shocking seeing that at first they had to walk her in a push chair around the neighbourhood at first to get her to sleep.

My DS has been in nursery for 3 months (he's now 9 months) and in the past couple weeks he's finally clicked into the same sleep paterns he has at home. Yesterday he had two 1 1/2 hour naps. The staff at nursery will give them cuddles and do everythign we mums would do because they know how important naps are for our wee ones.
