I've got an interview!! On Tuesday!

Talk about short notice. It's a job I really really want. Trouble is, I've been working term time only, this job is permanent, more benefits, 25 hours per week but not term time only. I can work a bit during school hols but noticed on website they promote flexible working. Wondering if anyone else is working somewhere where they can take hol/work from home/accrue hours etc in order to work slightly less hours during school hols?

Having two school aged children means that childcare is way too expensive during the holidays and so the flexibility would be a clincher really. Excited but sort of not really!!

not saying that it's a problem as might not get the job, just wondering how to approach it during the interview really.

I am not sure that most employers will go for effectively term time only - if its a deal breaker wonder if you should asked them before the interview and save everyone's time
are you sure you can't work at all - we manage with a combination of grandparents, children's father etc , perhaps some friends doing swaps along with some annual leave - and then a limited amount of child care - which we get childcare vouchers for cutting the cost further. What you might be able to do - depends on the job and the employer is do the hours over say 3 days in the holidays and over 5 in the term time which would make things easier maybe

No, I know they won't do term time only, I'm hoping I can do longer days with same hours and work from home to try to manage it. Will see, don't want to make it problem during the interview, will check on flexibility as working hours aren't stated in job description. Thanks!

Congrats!

I think I might be in the minority here (having seen other threads like this) but I wouldn't mention the need for flexible working in the interview. It is tough out there, I personally would prefer to discuss the detail if I get the job. I know the law is on "our" side, but I just don't want to highlight having dependant DCs at all. I even take my wedding ring off! I know I am not helping "the cause" but you just never know what the interviewer might think subconsciously.

I think you are talking about compressed hours. Or flexi time. If they want you, they might be able to offer you something but you'd have to do a lot of extra work to cover the 12 weeks of holidays or whatever it is.

Hopefully somebody who does do that can offer some experience.

Good luck and hope you get the outcome you want.

Congratulatons!

See what holiday clubs/classes are available around you. When I was working, I juggled around hours during holidays and sent DS to sports camp 8.30 - 5.50 (which he loved). Expensive, I know, but local schools did do cheap holiday camps and DH and I also arranged to take some holidays seperately, so DS got to go for lunch with mummy/daddy at their office and really enjoyed that too.

Thanks guys, I didn't get the job - turns out they decided not to appoint and even offered one applicant who wasn't working the "opportunity" to volunteer to build up experience. Think I had a lucky escape. And they were a Christian charity!!!
