Should I apply for this job?

I'm currently looking for work and have seen a job I'd like to apply for. It's full time and seeing as I have a 2yo I would only want to work part time really.

My question is, can I apply for it and if I get it can I ask to job share? I've been asked this before when I've appointed people but that was in the public sector and we were obliged to meet this if possible, and in fact I did. This position I'm interested in is private sector so I have no idea what I can and can't do.
Advice greatly appreciated.

Of course you can apply for it, and if successful of course you can ask to job-share? Just don't be surprised when they don't agree.

Sorry about the random ?

You can ask but there is no legal requirement for them to consider anything till you've worked there six months.

So don't be surprised if they say no. Best bet is to find someone you could job share with if they're a small business finding you a job share partner will just be a hassle they probably don't want.

You could, but you might waste a lot of time on the application, interview, second interview etc, only to be told no, they're only willing to consider full time.

But then I applied for something, and asked in the application whether they would consider a job share, and got a flat NO back within the hour.

I know someone on here recently has successfully negotiated a reduction in hours for a full-time job so she finishes early a couple of days a week, so it depends what you're able to offer really.

That's all good advice thank you. I had considered the time wasted on my behalf if they say no but that's good to know there is hope for a reduction in hours if not a full job share.

I would say many - but not all employers - would go for a reduction to 30 hours - lower than that unless they there is a potential job share partner might be tricky - it could be worth investigating if they have a flexiable working policy - that might give you an idea.
