selling to USA

Just wondered if any of you have done this with your own products? I have had an enquiry from a potential customer (low price product so don't want to lose too much of the profit because I have been stupid) and before I give him a price, I want to know if I will have any duty to pay? I may be being very dense, but I am finding it hard to find a simple answer online.

From what I understand it is the customer who pays the import duty/tax not you. This is how it works when I BUY from the US and Aus. I pay the duty/tax.

I sell my own products to the US/Canada, I've not had to pay tax to send them. Really, the biggest problem I've found is getting insurance to cover selling in the USA/Canada.

Great thanks - I came across other people saying that insurance was a problem Betty. I will need to check my business insurance to see what it says. Some on ebay say they put a disclaimer on their selling page for the USA, but I dont know if that actually makes any difference.

Another thing to ask Business Gateway once maternity leave is over I guess.

Yes, do check with your insurance company, you may be able to cover N America for a small extra sum- I don't think a disclaimer would cover it, tbh, especially with products you make yourself. I've only just recently been able to sell to the USA and Canada again, when I started in business nearly 6 yrs ago the insurance was affordable, then it went through the roof and now it's back to reasonable again- no idea why!
