Hello. I don't know how much traffic there is in this section, but could any kind souls with knowledge or experience of the WorkFare scheme (or its equivalent, the terminology is a bit confusing) please pop over [[http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/1343731-WORKFARE-programmes-Does-anyone-have-any-experience-of-this?pg=1 here]

cheers

Quite a bit of traffic here but we tend to deal with UK issues and I think WorkFare is common in USA, Canada and Australia?? I'll pop over and have a look. Not sure how much help I'll be!

Right have looked at other thread. I didn't realise it was already so prevalent in UK!

I have some concerns. Firstly, national minimum wage is not being respected and the pictures of queues of people waiting for handouts of food package in USA does not indicate it's working to me. It just suggests the burden is being placed elsewhere but I'm not sure I can offer much from an HR perspective.

katie, I may have my terminology wrong, but this article in the Telegraph from a few days ago is interesting...

I've posted on the other thread about the erosion of employment rights and the possible wider implications for non-Workfare workers.

I think I posted it was fucking horrible Grin

I hold my hands up, I am a socialist although my objections are not just political.
