Holiday for 4 day week pro rata question

My holiday allowance is 25 days per year. I am dropping to a four day week and have been told I will get a total of 27 days incl bank holidays. As there are 8 standard paid bank holidays in the Uk should this not be 28 days as the 25 days currently get on a 5 day week is simply pro rata to 20 and the bank holidays added?
Can anyone help please?

Your bank holidays will be pro rata as well, so you're actually gaining a couple of hours!

Bank holidays are pro-rated. If you work Monday's you get them automatically except for ones over Xmas if not on a Monday. I don't work Monday's so have to take them at another time.

the bank holiday entitlement would only only be 8 x 4/5 as you do a 4 day week

surely if you work mondays you would owe hours?

when I worked 15 hours (tues-thurs) I got 3 hours for each bank hol because most were on a non-working day. My boss didn't mention this to me, asked him when I was deciding which days to work, I said if I do mon-wed you'll want hours back so I must be due hours if I do tues-thurs!

My friend works mon & fri and most bank hols fall on these days and she has to use her annual leave which includes the bank hol hours.

OP, you will get 26.4 days holiday including bank holidays calculated as (25 + 8) x 4/5. Presumably previously when full time you got 25 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays.

If you work part time, say 15 hours a week usually including a Monday, in a bank holiday Monday week you should work 4/5 of your normal hours, so 15 x 4/5 = 12 hours. In my workplace, if you end up getting too many hours off by taking the whole of Monday off, you would have to make up those hours another day or take unpaid leave. Some workplaces get round this by including bank holidays in your annual leave calculation (as in OP's case) and then you have to take annual leave on bank holidays.

Not every bank holiday is a Monday - there are only 4 I can think of (two in May, one August and Easter Monday).

Where I work they pro-rata holiday by expressing it in hours (not days) for part timers. You divide the FT hours of holiday by the FT working hours then multiply by the PT hours. (in my case 222/37 x 30 = 180 hours holiday due).

BHs are worked out the same way, so if you should normally get 8 days and you work Mon to Thurs you would get 6.5.

Looks like they've given you an extra 1/2 day, so I wouldn't complain Grin

So when I start on my 4 day week on 1st April next year I have been told I will get 20.5 days including the bank holidays . This is from 1/04/12 to 31/12/12. Does this look right as I think there is an extra bank holiday next year for Jubilee day. Those who know how to work this out can you help please?

I think it's the norm to round up? Otherwise you'd end up worse off over a few years.

Also we arent pro-rated on a day basis - it's an hourly basis. So 36 hour week, three days a week is 22 hours for me. Pro-rate is 22/36 not 3/5 for some reason.
