I've been in my current job 14 years, seen the perfect job advertised and need to update my CV...can anyone help please?

I haven't been looking for a job, been fairly disallusioned with my current one for a while but due to circumstances was 'sticking it out', however I have seen a perfect job in the paper and am going to phone them in the morning

So tonight I would like to draft a cv incase when I ring them tomorrow they ask to see one, rather than an application form. The ad says they would like to see people informally before interview and am hoping I can visit tomorrow as that would be perfect.

I have been with my current employer for 14 years. I also have a 2nd job which came about due to circumstances and didn't have an interview, so I have not had to have a cv for a very long time. I have absolutely no idea how to start writing one as the last one was a leaving school cv and I assume having work experience I will need totally different content?

I have searched old threads on here and found that my a-levels will be largely irrelevant for example, so do I still put those on?

Also, I have done a fair bit of voluntary stuff which would be relevant to the job I am applying for, so where does this go?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me

Finbar I won't put hobbies down, thank you. They would be of little interest anyway Grin

I called them this morning and will be going to see the school tomorrow, along with another person apparently, an informal meeting which will no doubt be important for them scoping me out?!

I will be doing some research into the role and school tonight in preparation. I've never had to do this before it's quite odd but exciting and scary all at the same time.

small update, trying to fill out the application form and am struggling with the 'reason for application' section.

does it matter if my answer is long? I don't want to bore the reader to death but I am trying to cover all of the person specification. Mind you i'm writing it in word, when I C&P it to the form it might be rejected coz it's too long Grin

I'm also concerned as it asks for references but does not give the option to say 'don't contact unless i get the job' and I really don't want to chance them contacting my employer as I don't want them to know unless I get the job!! any ideas?

Thank you waswondering. The form is online so no obvious word limit, although I did fill out a section of the form earlier and it told me I had used too many characters.

I will print off my draft and re-read outloud. I have til Monday to get the application form in so I will keep re-doing it over a few days to try and get it right.

waswondering, I made that the first point in my statement.

I have now submitted my application form. Scary! Applications close on Monday so I should hear sometime next week. I don't hold out too much hope as I think there'll be lots of applicants, although I am qualified for the job so we'll see. I need a PMA and a lot of luck. Will keep my fingers crossed and try to not think about it all weekend!
