Not for everyone, but if you are open minded, can "act" over the phone & not squeamish, then I've known a couple of people who have worked on those phone sex lines & that was from home & in the evenings - always used to make me laugh that one used to tie it in with doing her ironing - not sure how you'd find out about it though - maybe ring one up & ask

probably not the sort of thing you're looking for, but it came to mind on reading your post

other than that, it will depend on your skills, ??

Typing? There are companies that outsource digital dictation audio typing and you can do it from home whenever you like. My secretary does it in the evenings for extra money.

If you can't type then you can learn easily using a computer program (e.g. Mavis Beacon Typing Tutor) - but I think the one my sec works for pays a sort of 'piece rate' according to how many words you produce, so you would need to build up a decent WPM.

Alternatively, spray tanning? You can often get free training from the manufacturers of the solution if you buy a kit with the spray gun, pop-up tent etc. You can do it mobile and it would be mostly evenings/Saturday mornings. Check out the Salon Geek forum for more info.

oh dear not sure I could justify the phone sex to my mother!! lol! I'm a boring accountant but any tax returns I do are only around january and april, i need something year round

typing sounds perfect, do you have any idea who it is your sec does it for or how she got in touch with the company?

thanks so much ladies, this is my very first post and can't believe how quickly you've responded xx

She works for Document Direct - they've got a website but it seems mainly aimed at customers rather than potential employees. She told me that she has to provide her own foot pedal (£40 on amazon for a good one she says) and headphones but the software etc is supplied. You tell them how many hours a week you want to do and you can do the work when you choose I think. She said it's 50p a minute but 'a minute' is determined by the words you produce rather than time IYSWIM.

you say you are a 'boring accountant' so why not offer book-keeping services at home, VAT, wages etc. all can be done at home in the evenings
and you may be able to obtain work from the clients who you already prepare tax returns for.

Manual assembly work for local factories - that's what I do - very, very boring but flexible.

Tenebrist · 11/11/2011 12:55

Second what mollymole says. You could specialise in offering bookkeeping services for small companies and freelancers who might not be able to afford larger accountancy companies.

Am rather amused at the idea of you offering 'accountant phone sex' though. 'ooh look at that double entry, baby' etc

Whoops Blush mine wasn't the best first reply to a very first post Grin -

but now you've posted you have a trade, especially one such as accountancy - you should have no problem :)

How about approaching local small businesses & offering to do there accounts from home for them, as you've no over heads I can imagine you can be very competitive, so should pick up business quite easily - maybe a flyer with a mini CV, or ad in your local paper - good luck :)

There is a website where you can bid for work, I'm sure it includes accountancy, can anyone remember the name?
