Employers no longer allowing long term sick or disability protection

Are they allowed to do this? I thought disabilities were a protected status

As far as I know employers still have to adhere to the DDA and the law.

But that does not stop them being able to manage any absences under Capability.

They have to make reasonable adjustments under the DDA, but ultimately if a member of staff is unfit for work I believe employers can use capability proceedings to manage absences and potentially dismiss staff.

What do you mean 'not allowing' long term sick? It's up to the doctor whether someone goes off long term sick, not the employer. Can you explain what's happening?

If you are off work more than x days per annum a warning can be given-so colleague got awarning after an op on her shoulder -unfair as never off sick

In some businesses warnings are automatically triggered by certain levels of absence. Is your colleague's absence disability-related then?
