jb..you need to be a bit more precise about what help you want.

Well why do you think you would be the perfect candidate for this job?

Try to talk in terms of skillsets and achievements not on activities, if that makes sense!

As you want it so much, ask yourself why it's so important to you and what skills you have which will make you good at it - then put 'em in!

Does it have a JD and person spec? I work in the NHS and all our applicants are shortlisted on the basis of their match. So you have to sell yourself "to" the job. So, how can you evidence that you are fantastic at Fraud investigations? When have you delt with a very complex enquiry? How have your negotiation skills resolved a problem? etc etc You want them to think, this person can do this job, will fit into our team, and bring all sorts of skills and attributes that we need. Lots of "I" statements, and short descriptions of what you have done.

Really wanting the job is a great starting point. that's what you need to get across.

Is it an application form or a CV you need to do? Sounds like the latter, since you talk about an application letter. Much harder IMO! but I'm with nooka (also an NHSnik) - go through the job description and person spec and try to cover every single one, fitting more than one into each sentence if you can. so:
person spec says 'essential to have experience in managing fraud investigation' and
'desirable to have staff management experience'
your letter says 'As Fraud Team Leader since 2003, I have completed all assigned investigations on time and on budget. I have supervised a team of 5 staff and have taken a management qualification which means I am now ready to take a full staff management role'.

oh, and never allow yourself to start a sentence 'Although' - it's negative - turn it round and make it positive. Not 'Although I have never held a budget...' but 'My financial responsibilities have included...'

Thanks folks for all your input.

The description is very vague really.

Hers how it goes.

Ideally experience of investigations, audits and compliance activities.

Ability to deal with complex enquiries
Ability to demonstarte negotiation skills

The company like short sweet straight to the point letters. I know this due to prev feedback
