I am a 26 year old first time mum living with my partner in his parents house. My maternity pay will run out in September and i was wondering what benefits i could claim? as i do not want to return to work yet as i want to care for my child. My partner is self employed and works 50 hours a week.

So if anyone can help me it would be appreciated.
So questions can i claim for any benefits?

You might be entitled to some tax credits depending on your dps earnings

Lots of assumptions in there. You have no idea what my work history even is.

Who can blame someone being unwilling to sign up to regular hours with a childminder for casual hours.

I am not blaming them for not wanting to sign up to a childminder, although I am sceptical about how casual it actually is if the op is able to claim maternity pay- you have to be earning a minimum amount before you will even be entitled to claim maternity pay.

"its very casual work now" the OP said. That doesnt mean it was casual when she qualified for maternity oay. In fact it actually confirms she isnt exactly work shy like you make out she is.

Hello, go onto the moneysavingexpert.com site and look under the benefits section. And good luck ;) my mum brought up her own 12 children and I brought up mines also. The hardest job in the world but the most rewarding. Enjoy your time with your precious child and don't miss out in their uprearing. Return to work part-time when YOU feel you wish to. Best when your child can communicate especially if left in the factory farming nurseries, where they are left with strangers. x
