DH had a problem at work few years back, and he sought advice on the phone with a few lawyers. They usually offer an hour for free, just to hear your case and give a few points.

They will tell you if your case is weak from the start.

In London there are council law centers, where you can book appointments and see a lawyer who will give you this advice.

People also recommend ACAS, who may be able to give you more advice. Also look at the Law Society's website.

There are a few no win no fee places, but not many. I'd personally be a bit wary of law centres without knowing more about your situation because you often get a non-specialist, so they can be great if your case is straightforward, but not necessarily otherwise.

Have you checked whether your household insurance has legal expenses cover ? Many do, and that can be a good way of getting the costs of advice covered.

Mousquetaire is also correct that some lawyers will give you an initial chat for free.

You could go to your CAB in the first instance; they should have a list of employment lawyers. And they can give you an idea of the strength of your case at a very basic level - they're not lawyers, but you might learn enough to decide whether to proceed.

Pardon me if you already know all this, but this might be useful.

Also factsheets here.

Are you still working there? Or have you left already? Do you plan to stay in your job whilst going to Tribunal and have you raised a grievance against your employer and if so what happened?
