Performance appraisal and Pay rises

Hi, I have been back at work for 3 weeks, after having two months off work for sick leave. I had my appraisal last week, which did not give me a fair or balanced view of my work and which did not detail any of my achievements. My manager agreed to take on board my views and amended it slightly. I seem to be penalised for taking the time off and my appraisal seems to dwell on a couple of very minor problems which occurred during my sick leave.
My line manager now has advised me that I will not be getting a salary increase, as my Director believes that my salary was above the market rate when I started a year ago! My next salary review will be in 12 months. No salary increase, however small, for 2years!! I had checked with agencies before requesting my salary last year and it was in line with what they would offer. A number of my duties have been taken away since my manager started earlier this year, and now done by her. I have also discovered that I am the only person in my small office that will not be getting a pay increase, and other staff salaries are similar to mine for their duties. I shall be speaking to my director after my appraisal has been signed off. Any views on how I can approach him about this would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

No advice but I'll rebump for you. When I had a similar situation I was pregnant and just ended up sobbing all over my boss - they still never gave me a proper answer, and I'm still bitter (since DD is 2 1/2 now, you can tell I've been brooding over it for a long time!!!)

Leah - it will help focus your meeting with your directorif you can write down all your achievements to ensure that they are covered. Before your sign your appraisal off you should raise it with your director that you are not happy with the appriasal and would like to discuss with them before payrises are finalised.
HTH and good luck.

Oooh yes, good point - don't let them finish the appraisal side until you are happy! That was what went on with me - they just kept putting off my appraisal re-meeting (for me to complain) until I had to leave to have my baby...

Thank you all for your replies and comments. I am still feeling rather annoyed about having to be penalised for being on sick leave. I have not yet sent my appraisal to my manager. I did think about sending it to her to get signed off before talking to my Director. I am happier that she has taken on board my comments about my appraisal, and it was amended. I will still leave in my achivements as she made very little comment herself about this. I will definately highlight my achivements, as he is probably not aware of them as he very rarely in the office. I really do not expect them to budge on this, and my manager offers no support. Yet I think they do need to listen to my comments. I was also thinking of showing him details of jobs with the same or better salaries. What do you think? I had done this last year so I am amazed that he thinks my job is over the market rate. Yet it would be if one's manager takes away a large amount of one's key responsibilities!!
